Central to an eating disorder are people’s emotions and emotional responses to eating, food and body, and high rates of anxiety and mood disorders are known. However, diagnostic conceptualisations and treatment may often focus on behaviours and cognitions to the neglect of mood states and concurrent illness. In this Special Issue in , we present a series of papers which would help us to further understand the relationships between mood states or specific disorders and the aetiology, assessment, diagnosis, management or outcomes for people with eating disorders. Papers that explore novel approaches to the management of emotion dysregulation as well as specific mood disorders as experienced by those with eating disorders are also included.
